Mazda: First drive with the number 2 🎥
THE PRICE IS HOT AGAIN With the freshly redesigned Mazda 2, Mazda is bucking the trend toward so-called downsizing and is still powering the small car with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder.
While driving, the person behind the wheel benefits from G-Vectoring Control Plus
The new small car is being launched on the market in three performance levels. In addition to the already familiar versions with 75 and 90 hp, a new top variant with 115 hp is now also at dealerships - and this is where the driving fun comes into play.
The 115 hp meets an unladen weight of around one ton. Thanks to this combination of a high-revving powertrain and the smooth-shifting six-speed transmission, the signs point to a brisk ride.
Involuntary friend of speed cameras
The person behind the steering wheel looks at a tachometer that dominates the tidy collection of instruments and a (much too) small display for the speed. This could be a bit bigger...
Once in motion, the Mazda 2 quickly becomes an unwilling friend of the speed cameras on the side of the road. It is therefore advisable to book the Technology package, which always shows the permitted speed by means of a head-up display.
Improvement of dynamics in curves
While driving, the person behind the wheel benefits from the driving dynamics control system G-Vectoring Control Plus, which is pleasingly restrained, but still keeps the small Mazda on track and above all improves dynamics when cornering.
And that's where the two-seater feels at home. It confidently pulls its circles, and the pilot (or pilotess) enjoys the rapid ride and hopes for the next turn.
Pleasant materials in the interior
At the same time, the Mazda 2 always remains well controllable, comfortable thanks to the well-tuned suspension and spares the occupants from feedback from the maladjusted infrastructure.
The seats provide sufficient lateral support, the interior is pleasantly designed, and the materials are cleanly finished - this is what driving pleasure can look like.
Safety elements in the i-Activsense package
Of course, the consumption values measured on the test bench cannot be adhered to during these journeys. Mazda promises five liters - the joy of fast driving demands a significant surcharge, but it is definitely worth it.
Mazda has combined the safety elements in a package called i-Activsense. This includes, among other things, a city emergency braking assistant with pedestrian detection and, from the Exclusive Line equipment line, an active lane departure warning system. A matrix LED lighting system is also available as an option.
