The drive of the famous Mille Miglia-winning Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR "722" through London is part of a farewell tour before the car's return to the Mercedes-Benz Museum.

"Who do you think you are? Stirling Moss?" according to legend, a policeman once asked the British racing driver after a daring overtaking maneuver in London. "Yes, I am," came the honest answer.

Stirling Moss The Last Blast
The drive of the Mille Miglia-winning 300 SLR "722" through London is part of a farewell tour.

Original vehicle from the Mille Miglia 1955
The short film picks up on this lore and numerous other scenes from the life and career of Stirling Moss. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR in the film is the original vehicle made famous by Moss' victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia. The camera zooms in on a sticker on the front fender of the bike with the famous question.

With this, and as part of a police escorted drive through the middle of London, the film celebrates the life of Moss, who died on April 12, 2020 at the age of 90. Filming took place at the end of September this year in London, the center of Moss' life for more than 60 years.

Decades of service to the brand
In addition to the main protagonist, the Silver Arrow, there is also an invisible protagonist: the former racing driver himself. He achieved a great victory in this 300 SLR together with Denis Jenkinson in the Italian road race from Brescia to Rome and back in May 1955.

In honor of Stirling Moss, the company has now let the inline eight-cylinder engine roar through London for the last time before the vehicle is returned to its permanent home in the museum in Stuttgart.

With the three-and-a-half-minute film, Mercedes-Benz Classic honors and thanks Sir Stirling Moss for his decades of service to the brand - and also his family, who have always reliably supported the racing driver.
