KW: Modern suspension for 911 classics
SEMIACONDUCTED DRIVING SYSTEM Suspension specialist KW Automotive has developed a coilover suspension with suspension control unit and modern sensor technology for the air-cooled Porsche 911 of the 964 series. First use at tuner Mletzko.
The fascination with air-cooled Porsche models continues unabated among classic and youngtimer enthusiasts. At Mletzko in Osnabrück, so-called backdate Porsches are handcrafted on the basis of the 964 series 911s built from 1989 to 1994.
The special thing about this Mletzko car is that the sports car, refined down to the last detail, looks classic but has completely modern technology.
Chassis technology like at Rimac Automobili
The rebuilt engine is available in 3.9 and 4.0 liter versions with outputs of 345 and 369 hp. Shifting is by means of a shortened six-speed transmission from the last air-cooled Porsche 911 generation 993.
Unique for a restomod based on the classic Porsche 911 is the semi-active coilover suspension developed by KW Automotive with its integrated vehicle dynamics control. In addition to the CAN bus signals available in the vehicle, the suspension control unit evaluates all driving situations via the additionally installed KW sensor system with wheel and body sensors.
Product portfolio for the automotive industry
KW Brand Manager Jonas Ehrmann: "Basically, we use the same adaptive chassis technology at our original equipment customer Rimac Automobili. We offer the entire product portfolio of hydraulics, electronics, sensors, control units and damper controls from a single source for various industrial customers in the automotive sector."
