Hyundai: The Grandeur EV as a restomod
REMEMBER Maintaining brand history has only recently become an issue for Korean manufacturers. All the more consistently, they are now devoting themselves to the brands' heritage. A fine example of this is the Grandeur EV.
The massive sedan is the second model in the Heritage Series, following the Pony shown in the spring. The vehicle was built in January 2021 for an internal design lounge and can now be seen in public for the first time. Images have now surfaced on social media.
Fauteuils with red velour interior
Like the Pony, the Grandeur has been completely overhauled as a so-called restomod (modernized during restoration) and equipped with an electric drive.
The retro-futuristic, thoroughly redesigned interior features four fauteuils lined with red velour and a digital dashboard. The exterior skin has been smoothed and equipped with state-of-the-art LED lighting units.
Joint development with Mitsubishi
The Grandeur offered in Switzerland was the Hyundai brand's first luxury car when it debuted in 1986; it had been developed jointly with Mitsubishi, where it rolled off the production line under the Debonair designation.
It was powered by four- and six-cylinder engines and was available with manual and automatic transmission. Hyundai's designers dispensed with the radiator mascot, which was once obligatory in the top versions, for this project.
