The Kart Championship comes to Lignières
KARTING Three weeks after Wohlen, the participants in the autobau Swiss Kart Championship 2017 meet for their second home race, this time in Lignières. The TCS circuit could once again bring more variety to the rankings. From a washboard track to a GP circuit - this is how the drivers of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship, who were shaken up at the Wohlen karting track on April 29, must have felt when they went around the flat, but therefore no less attractive track in Lignières.
The TCS training grounds, picturesquely situated at the foot of the Chasseral above Lake Biel, are ideally suited for karting. This was proven by last year's races, which provided top entertainment both in spring and at the finale in September. This year, Lignières will again be the venue twice on May 20/21 and September 17/18.
While there was hardly any variety at the top of the individual races in Wohlen, the wide track in the canton of Neuchâtel offers more opportunities for overtaking maneuvers without risk. In addition, the program is again spread over two days as usual, with practice on Saturday and the total of 15 race heats on Sunday. Each of the five SKM classes will hold two heats and one final run.
Not only the athletes appreciate the infrastructure of the only Swiss circuit, the spectators also get their money's worth here. Thanks to the elevated and easily accessible embankments around the area, it is completely visible. The paddock is freely accessible, and a paddock speaker informs spectators about what is happening on and off the track.
In the top class KZ2 of the switch karts, Nicolas Rohrbasser will try to at least maintain or even increase his lead of 30 points over André Reinhard, which he gained in Wohlen. A year ago, Isabelle von Lerber won her first KZ2 race here, so the Bernese will also want to have a say in the victory, especially on her almost home track.
In the OK Senior class introduced in 2016, Pascal von Allmen dominated the action in Wohlen almost at will, something his opponents are trying to prevent this time. Patrick Näscher is still unbeaten in the young season in the Iame X30 Challenge. The Liechtensteiner is well on the way to taking one of the five SKM titles in 2017 to Ländle. Mike Müller in the X30 Juniors and Elia Sperandio in the Super Minis are similarly dominant.
Those who don't want to travel to Lignières themselves can follow the action from the comfort of their armchair. All the final races will be broadcast on the Internet on Sunday via livestream with commentary.
