Motorsport: Sauber F1 leads the super standings

MOTORSPORT The four world championship points scored by Pascal Wehrlein for the Sauber F1 Team in Spain were the crowning glory of a successful weekend from a Swiss perspective. This began on Saturday with Sébastien Buemi's Formula E victory in Monaco. As reported up to date on Sunday at AutoSprintCH online, Buemi dominated the fifth Formula E race of the year-long season. As reported by AutoSprintCH online on Sunday, Buemi dominated the fifth Formula E race of the year-long season. The Vaudois is already looking forward to the Renault home race in Paris on Saturday.

On Sunday morning, Stefano Comini delivered another feat in the TCR International Series at Monza. Driving the heaviest car in the field in terms of classification and success ballast, Comtoyou Racing's Audi RS3 LMS TCR, the Ticino native won the second race after a slipstream battle customary in the Autodromo. Despite overstressed brakes and tires, Comini saved himself as the winner for the second time after Spa a week ago. In the championship, the two-time TCR champion moved up to third place.

Shortly before, Arjun Maini won the second round of the GP3 Series in Barcelona in the run-up to the Spanish GP. The young Indian thus gave Jenzer Motorsport its first victory in this championship in five years. With the second Dallara GP3 from Lyss, Italy's Alessio Lorandi took third place in both races. The season could not have started more successfully for the team spurned by Swiss drivers.

The Circuit de Catalunya also proved to be a good track for Sauber. The strategy of changing the Pirelli tires on Pascal Wehrlein's C36 only once proved to be a clever move that was rewarded with four championship points. Without the subsequent 5-second penalty, it would even have been six points for 7th place instead of 8th. But this did not dampen the spirits of team boss Monisha Kaltenborn: "Today's result proves that we are on the right track and that there is definitely potential in our car. Now we're excited to see what the other new aero parts will bring us in Monaco."

Amazing consistency: In Budapest, Christjohannes Schreiber stood in the middle of the podium twice as ETCC race winner (Photo: Jean Michel Le Meur/DPPI).

In Budapest, Rikli Motorsport also had reason to celebrate. Christjohannes Schreiber impressed with his serenity at the wheel of the Honda Civic TCR. Despite 40 kg of success ballast from the victory in Monza, the man from Grisons won both races of the FIA European Touring Car Cup. In the second race, however, Peter Rikli had victory in sight before a cheap part in the wheel suspension broke. As the clear leader of the standings, Schreiber is now also the favorite at the next race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

Good pit stops, good drivers, good car: Emil Frey Racing brought both Safenwil predatory cats to the finish in the top 12 among 55 equally matched cars.

Finally, Emil Frey Racing rounded off a great Swiss day with the best team result to date in the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup. The Jaguar driven by Lorenz Frey, Stéphane Ortelli and Albert Costa crossed the finish line at Silverstone after three hours of racing in 10th place out of 55 (!) GT3 sports cars that had started. This resulted in the first championship point in 2017.

The second car with Jonathan Hirschi, Christian Klien and Marco Seefried followed two places behind. Geneva's Edoardo Mortara and Raffaele Marciello from Ticino took third overall in a Mercedes GT3 after leading for a while.
