Four out of five charging processes for electric cars now take place at the charging station at home. While conventional cars are parked waiting for their next use, the technology and batteries of an electric car often work for hours at the charging station to be fully operational again.
Although this is usually safe, the connection to the power grid can always create a fire hazard. After all, large amounts of electricity flow during charging, which can trigger fires in the event of technical malfunctions.
Fire protection testing by experts
The fire of an electric car always poses a special challenge. For example, if the wallbox is installed outside on a non-fireproof house facade insulated with plastic panels, the insulation can also catch fire in the event of a fire.
In new commercial construction, fire protection for electric cars and wallboxes is usually already provided for by the planners. Private builders, on the other hand, are well advised to have the fire protection checked by an expert.
Experts advise a fire safety inspection by professional installation companies or qualified professionals when wallboxes are retrofitted. In addition, particularly sensitive smoke detectors should also be installed.
