The new Continental GT Speed is the fastest road car in Bentley's 101-year history.
The noble Briton is 4.85 meters long, weighs around 2300 kilograms and is equipped with a 6-liter twelve-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive, air suspension and all-wheel steering. With its 900 Nm and 659 hp, it accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds in Launch Control mode and reaches a maximum of 335 km/h.
A good feeling of exclusive sovereignty
Although such a huge power potential can hardly ever be exploited on public roads, it still makes you feel good. If required, there is more than enough power reserve available at any time and in any driving situation. Compared with the predecessor model, the Bentley developers have increased engine output by 24 hp, thanks in part to a new cooling system with separate circuits for the cylinder head, engine block and turbocharger. And when only a little power is needed for cruising, the twelve-cylinder engine makes six cylinders temporarily idle, thus reducing consumption and emissions.
Electronically controlled rear axle differential
Designed and developed at the CO2-neutral plant in Crewe, England, the new GT Speed generation raises the bar yet again in terms of driving dynamics. The electronically controlled rear axle differential eLSD, together with the dynamic handling control, adaptive damping and rear-wheel steering, helps the GT Speed to deliver even more dynamic cornering.
Although the vehicle's mass is clearly noticeable in corners, the all-wheel drive system, mode-dependent stability control and powerful braking system ensure perfect performance. Provoked wiping away of the rear axle can be parried safely because the front wheels also help out.
Depending on the driving mode, they transmit up to 250 or 400 Nm to the road and thus reduce the tendency to understeer when cornering. The 8-speed dual-clutch transmission also works depending on the driving mode.
More sustainable material and optimized production
The rear-wheel steering in the GT Speed is a positive feature. In slow city traffic, it noticeably reduces the turning circle by turning in the opposite direction. The long wheelbase seems shorter. At higher speeds, on the other hand, rear wheels turned in the same direction ensure faster and safer lane changes.
On public roads, however, it is more the level of equipment and comfort that makes the Bentley Continental unique. More sustainable materials and new manufacturing processes have been incorporated, such as in the door panels with their three-dimensional diamond pattern. Great craftsmanship is evidenced by many other details, such as the Alcantara-covered steering wheel and the special embossing and embroidery that are optional. Veneers for trim parts are available in piano black, walnut, eucalyptus or koa acacia wood on request.
The new edition of the Continental GT Speed is also available as a coupe and a convertible, at prices starting at 285,390 and 313,610 Swiss francs respectively. The Convertible version is equipped with a convenient and quick-to-operate fabric roof with Z-fold.
