Rinspeed: Oasis world premiere in Las Vegas
The Zumiker car visionary Frank M. Rinderknecht can be relied on when it comes to rethinking mobility. With the Rinspeed concept study "Oasis," the smart self-driving e-mobile for the city and the surrounding countryside, he contradicts the ideas of the urban jungle, where powerful SUVs are needed for the daily struggle for survival. "Mobile urban gardening," in other words, is what the Rinspeed boss considers the martial appearance [...]
The Rinspeed boss counters the martial appearance with "mobile urban gardening". With its large glass surfaces and covered front wheels, the two-seater looks quite futuristic and is somewhat reminiscent of a modern interpretation of the Star Wars icon R2D2. What both have in common is that they can turn almost on the spot on their wheels. In the case of the "Oasis," thanks to a special steering angle, two wheel-mounted electric motors and "torque vectoring." There's even provision for planting behind the steering wheel. Who will own the car, who will operate it, and what will they use it for? Rinspeed boss Frank M. Rinderknecht has designed and equipped the car so that every conceivable option is open - if society is willing to share goods in a meaningful way. "Oasis" can serve as a shopping cart in the morning, a mailbox for the parcel service in the afternoon and a pizza cab in the evening.
The "Oasis" will be on display at CES Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel at the Harman event from January 4-7, 2017, then at the ZF booth at the NAIAS in Detroit from January 9-22, 2017, and in spring 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show (March 9-19 at Palexpo).
