The average CO2 emissions of new passenger cars in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein fell by 10.5 percent to 123.6 grams per kilometer in 2020 compared to the previous year. These figures from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy demonstrate the successful efforts of the automotive industry.
14.4 percent market share of electrified models
The sharp decline is also due to the overfulfillment of the 10/20 target. In 2020, one in ten new cars was to be rechargeable via the electricity grid - in the end, the market share of electric cars and plug-in hybrids was as high as 14.4%.
In order to drive this growth forward, politicians must create appropriate framework conditions, especially after the failure of the new CO2 Act at the ballot box.
2020 Sanctions of around 132.5 million francs
Nevertheless, the CO2 target value of 95 grams per kilometer that has been in force since the beginning of 2020 has not yet been reached. Importers were fined a total of around CHF 132,500 million for failing to meet the target. In 2019, the figure was 78,100 million francs.
