Porsche: This is how the 911 GT3 Touring drives 🎥
LESS IS MORE With the first Touring based on the 991, the Stuttgart company proved to have an excellent nose, and the model was a great success worldwide. Now Porsche has a successor on offer. Apart from the adapted aerodynamics, however, there are virtually no differences between the GT3 derivatives.
Apparently, there are more than enough people who want to drive a razor-sharp quasi-race car with a good 500 naturally aspirated horsepower in the back, but don't find trackdays and monumental rear wings all that thrilling.
New naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine
Apart from the modified aerodynamics, however, there are virtually no differences between the two GT3 derivatives. The Touring also gets the new double-wishbone front axle and the new 4.0-liter six-cylinder naturally aspirated boxer engine, which is adopted almost unchanged from the GT3 Cup race car.
Compared with the predecessor, output increases slightly to 510 hp at 9000 rpm. The maximum torque of 470 Nm is available at 6100 rpm.
Up to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds
A new feature of the GT3 Touring is that you can choose between a manual and automatic transmission, as the 7-speed PDK is available at no extra charge. It increases the weight to 1435 kilos and grinds a few tenths off the acceleration times.
3.4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h if you let the automatic do it, 3.9 seconds if you take care of the clutch and the rare thing on your right yourself. The top speed is 320 things.
Seat position, controls and the operation
The differences to the GT3 with Wing are quickly explained. Everything that is Alcantara is thrown out and replaced by leather. That's a bit of a shame, because Alcantara (or Race-Tex, as it's now called in Zuffenhausen) feels much nicer.
Seating position, controls, handling - no other sports car can beat the 911.
Sound experience with distinctive motorsport sound
With its extremely sharp steering response with the double-wishbone front axle with integrated helper spring, the GT3 Touring can be driven like a go-kart.
The 6-cylinder boxer presses mighty power on the rear axle and revs up to 9000/min. An incredible sound experience, not only from the outside with a distinctive motorsport sound.
Residual comfort of the sport-tuned chassis
You sit very comfortably in the full-shell carbon seats and still enjoy a certain residual comfort of the sportily tuned chassis. If the road is wet, the gas pedal should be operated cautiously.
When the sun shines, on the other hand, the rear-wheel drive with performance tires provides perfect grip on dry roads.
The consumption of a good twelve liters per 100 kilometers - driven with PDK in the test - seems quite humane for the enormous power in the rear.
The stomping ground of the 911 GT3 with Touring package is the road - ideally terrain with winding challenges. We agree with rally legend Walter Röhrl when he was asked during a test break how he liked the car.
Walter Röhrl: "The Touring is the perfect car to enjoy driving on a country road."
Exactly. All this has its price, which starts at 209,800 Swiss francs.
