The world premiere of the CitySnap will take place on September 6, 2021 at the IAA Mobility Munich in Summit Hall A1.

The CitySnap concept vehicle shows a possible solution for innovative, sustainable and efficient delivery that can be implemented at short notice. The customer - and thus the human being - is the focus with all facets.

Every second delivery vehicle is superfluous

Rinspeed CEO Frank M. Rinderknecht: "People want more and more convenience and simplicity in their lives, but also more and more sustainability. According to recent studies, every second delivery vehicle is superfluous. Our delivery solution offers both."

Background: Global online commerce has exploded in the past fifteen months with growth rates of 30 percent. Goods and parcel volumes from eCommerce have increased dramatically. Today, approximately 3250 parcels are shipped worldwide every second. There is no end in sight to this growth.

Mobile parcel stations help to avoid gridlock in the city and reduce emissions and costs.

Logistics concept is a contemporary solution
This situation calls for contemporary delivery solutions - and preferably contactless, hygienic and thus very customer-friendly. With delivery vehicles that autonomously distribute, park and collect mobile parcel stations, the Swiss concept forge Rinspeed presents an exciting logistics concept.

Less emissions and costs per package
Thus, the use of the Rinspeed solution reduces the number of delivery vehicles required by up to 50 percent. In addition, this system saves six percent in CO2 emissions - per package!

What's more, the effort involved is reduced by around 17 percent per parcel compared with conventional parcel delivery, a cost advantage that can benefit consumers.

Traffic loads are a thing of the past
A system must therefore be found that eliminates the weaknesses of the current delivery system, but is also compatible with the future. At the heart of the CitySnap is a changeover system inspired by aviation, where it has been tested worldwide under all weather conditions. In the CitySnap, it makes completely new applications possible.

Among other things, the desired service can now be delivered quickly and easily to the customer, no matter where they are - at home or at work. These can also be transportable parcel stations that are parked in the customer's neighborhood for a certain period of time.

Limited opening hours, long travel distances and the endless and unpleasant courier caravans with the associated environmental and traffic pollution are also a thing of the past.

For the time being, there is still one driver at the wheel
Fully automated driving, according to a recent realization, will be some time coming. That is why the CitySnap is designed for a human driver for the time being. However, his activity for the delivery of the parcel stations is limited to driving alone.

Loading and unloading of the mobile parcel stations already takes place autonomously and takes only a few minutes. Later, computers and sensors will also take the driver's place in a self-driving vehicle. Welcome to the future.
