Motorsport: Kevin Jörg looks to the future
In GP3, the Formula 1 finale in Abu Dhabi is still to come. But Kevin Jörg is already looking further ahead: at the beginning of the week, the 21-year-old from St. Gallen is testing with Lotus in Formula V8 3.5. With the French team DAMS, which has years of success in many racing series, Kevin Jörg has not yet been happy in GP3. This junior series was uncharted territory for both parties in 2016, which was reflected in problems with the chassis set-up of the Dallara V6 racing cars and correspondingly poor results.
In order to be able to make a decision about his future with his sponsors, including Fredy Lienhard from autobau, Jörg first has to put out feelers for possible alternatives. One would have been Formula V8 3.5 for 2016, but now he has his sights set on it. Back in the fall of 2015, he tested with Team Lotus-Charouz in the Formula Renault 3.5, which he will do again at the beginning of this week on the GP circuit in Barcelona.

Strengthening self-confidence
For the 21-year-old from St. Gallen, these two days of testing are also important for his self-confidence: "After a mixed 2016 season so far, this is a great opportunity for me to prove that I haven't forgotten how to drive." Lotus Charouz team boss Bov Vavrik is also convinced of this: "At last year's test, we immediately recognized how fast he is. We followed Kevin closely in the GP3 races and saw that the team and driver were struggling in the technical area. Kevin was beaten below his value."
The chemistry between team and driver seems to be right. "We are convinced," says Vavrik, "that Kevin is a potential title contender in the cockpit. We are therefore aiming to work with him for the 2017 season." Louis Delétraz, who, like Jörg, was one of four juniors accepted into the Renault Sport Academy, finished runner-up in the now independent Formula V8 3.5 racing series in 2016 - it is quite possible that Kevin Jörg will now follow the same path.
