The 4.93-meter-long DS 9 sedan is intended to be a blend of historical heritage and current automotive engineering. Accordingly, the developers have placed great emphasis on the design and high level of comfort.
Typical for the exterior of the hatchback are the large radiator grille, the saber on the hood and the long wheelbase. The door handles in body color, which are flush with the body, and the scale-pattern taillights are also striking.
Gasoline and hybrids at the Swiss launch
At market launch, the E-Tense plug-in hybrid version with a system output of 165 kW (225 hp) and the Pure-Tech gasoline engine with the same output will be available as front-wheel drive models.
The hybrid powertrain combines a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with an 80-kW electric motor and an 11.9-kWh battery, providing a purely electric range of 45 to 50 kilometers.
A second E-Tense version will be added somewhat later: with all-wheel drive and 264 kW (360 hp) system output. All versions are equipped with eight-speed automatic transmissions.
Suspension comfort and low noise
The DS 9 is very pleasant to drive in everyday traffic. The suspension comfort is good, and the noise level is so low that an electric car could not improve it.
The hybrid drive mode is recommended, in which the car always automatically selects the most efficient combination of electric motor and combustion engine depending on the power requirement.
However, the small-volume gasoline engine works clearly audibly when the driving speed or an incline demands the full available power.
The E-Tense 4×4 version is much more spirited. Its hybrid system delivers 360 hp, which allows the car to be driven in a relaxed, comfortable manner as well as in a sporty, taut manner.
The two trims Performance Line+ and Rivoli+ are available, as are five body colors.
