Kart-SM: Trembling and cheering in 7 Laghi

HARD FIGHTS IN BEAUTIFUL FIELDS 95 pilots took part in the second round of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship in 7 Laghi. Among the big winners were Tiziano Kuzhnini, Ethan Ischer, Savio Moccia, Patrick Näscher and Samuel Luyet. The youngest offered one of the best races. Tiziano Kuzhnini ahead of Matt Corbi, Chiara Bättig and Elia Epifanio.

Except for two incidents with an injured photographer (get well soon!) and two riders briefly hospitalized for medical checkups, the second weekend of the season - again at 7 Laghi in Italy, and this time with the best weather - went flawlessly.

Big fight with the little ones
The decisions in the Super Mini category for the youngest drivers aged 8 to 12 were close. In the first heat, championship leader Tiziano Kuzhnini beat his teammate Matt Corbi by a razor-thin margin, and Corbi returned the favor in the second heat.

After a tough fight in the final, Kuzhnini took the lead only on the last lap. At the finish he was a tenth of a second ahead of Corbi. Corbi was subsequently given a five-second penalty for not attaching the spoiler correctly, so he dropped back to P6.

Final podium in OK Junior (from left): Elia Pappacena, winner Ethan Ischer and Tim Ziegler.

Ischer and Moccia shine in their classes
In the OC Juniors, Ethan Ischer prevailed in all three heats. The driver from the Spirit Racing team secured 72 of the possible 75 points after his first pole position and was thus clearly the "Junior of the Day". Second place went to championship leader Elia Pappacena in the final.

Savio Moccia again left no stone unturned in the X30 Challenge. The man from Berne proved to be unbeatable in the second race at 7 Laghi as well. Pole position, fastest race lap in the final and three race wins again meant the maximum points.

After six of 15 SM runs, Moccia is therefore clearly in the lead with 150 points. Moccia's closest rival remains Kilian Streit. The 19-year-old from Moccia's neighboring community of Schüpfen remains within striking distance with 3rd, 2nd and 3rd place.

Podium of the five fastest in the X30 Challenge: Mühlebach, Gay-Bardiaux, Moccia, Streit and Sauter.

Even the successful team boss is happy
In the OC Seniors, an intra-team duel is coming to a head after two race weekends. Patrick Näscher and Alain Baeriswyl were the fastest drivers in 7 Laghi, with the Liechtensteiner showing his teammate the tailpipes in all three runs.

Also celebrating on the podium was her boss from the Meier karting team.

Fabio Leimer, 2013 GP2 Champion: "It's great that my plan is working and that they're pushing each other to peak performance on different chassis."

Näscher and Baeriswyl have thus also overtaken Fabio Scherer, who dominated the first race weekend of 2021 at 7 Laghi, in the championship, as expected. Scherer is concentrating on motor racing (LMP2 winner of the 6H Spa) and is not planning any further kart starts.

Fabio Leimer and his pilots Alain Baeriswyl and Patrick Näscher were on the podium of the OK Seniors.

Good comeback from Isabelle von Lerber
Samuel Luyet and Nicolas Rohrbasser also fought a thrilling duel in KZ2. Luyet had the lead in all three heats, but was given a five-second penalty in the first heat because he sped off too early at the start. As a result, the order was: 1st Rohrbasser, 2nd Ivan Rechsteiner, 3rd Luyet.

In the second heat it was Rohrbasser who got the same time penalty for early start and so finished 3rd behind Rechsteiner. In the final, the third place on the podium went to Isabelle von Lerber. The KZ2 overall runner-up of 2019 had improved from run to run in her SM comeback.

Whether von Lerber plans to make further appearances is currently still open. In the case of the winner, however, the case is clear.

Samuel Luyet: "I only competed in this race because I wanted to get to know the tires with a view to further, international races."

Rohrbasser already has a comfortable lead in the championship with 132 points (compared to Tobias Widmer's 85).

Isabelle Lerber worked her way up to the podium from behind by the end of the day.
