The G80 premium sedan and the GV80 SUV based on it are to be launched here in the summer. The G70 and GV70 are to follow shortly afterwards. The electric version of the G80 is planned for the end of the year.
Within its first year, Hyundai's luxury brand plans to launch two more e-cars, one of which is based on a new platform. When announcing its European market launch, Genesis did not yet provide prices and performance data.
What is certain is that there will be gasoline and diesel engines with four and six cylinders, as well as all-wheel and rear-wheel drive for the sedans.
Studios instead of garages
And one more thing is clear: There will be no traditional dealer network. Brand and customer will come closer together either online or in so-called studios in exposed shopping miles, where a personal assistant will take care of everything from now on.
The rest is done via and from home. Vehicle maintenance is handled via a pick-up and drop-off service. The first studios are planned in Munich, Zurich and London.
For five years
Genesis has only been around for five years, and before that there was also a Hyundai model of the same name. The brand is represented in North America, the Middle East, Russia and Australia.
The models have already won several awards. In the J.D. Powers quality report, the Koreans already scored top results three times in a row. Now it's time to open a new chapter, said Genesis CEO Jaehoon (Jay) Chang.
The company has taken a lot of time to develop and fine-tune its new vehicles in Europe. Genesis' European engineering center is based in Rüsselsheim. And of course the cars also took their laps around the Nürburgring.
Classic elegance
Star designer and Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke speaks of classic elegance for the four models. He refers to the brand's "Two Line" look, which is reflected in the two lines each of the daytime running light blinker combination and on the taillights, which are each at the same height.
On the 80 series, there are also two lateral "gills" in the front fender that pick up the two imaginary lines between the front and rear lights.
Other Genesis trademarks are a wide radiator grille that tapers slightly in a V-shape at the bottom and a logo that is somewhere between Bentley and Aston Martin.
