Fast couple: Albin Mächler is a three-time touring car mountain champion, Ruth Scherrer is one of the fastest women in the LOC scene.

At the annual finale at the small Franzrüti airfield in Wangen SZ, which was watched by hundreds of spectators last Sunday in beautiful autumn weather, the drivers from the Intercantonal Slalom Championship each fight for the last points. Well-known names from the national scene also like to mingle in the starting field at the popular event of the Squadra Mosquito, which already took place for the 44th time.

Thus, the multiple Swiss automobile champions Albin Mächler and Edy Kamm took part. While Edy Kamm drove a VW Polo G40 more for fun, Albin Mächler had higher ambitions. The three-time touring car mountain champion absolutely lived up to his role as favorite at his home race. With the BMW M4 Coupé - his champion car from 2014 and 2015 - Mächler completed the approximately one-kilometer course with 34 gates fastest in both runs and thus took the day's victory, just as he did last year.

Proven combination: Albin Mächler won the mountain championship title with the BMW M4 in 2014 and 2015. On Sunday, he was the fastest driver of the Coupé around the pylons in the Wangen slalom.

With IKSM runner-up Fabio Nassimbeni on a Mini John Cooper Works, Urs Kupper, also from Wangen, on a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8, seven-time one-make cup winner Marcel Muzzarelli on a Honda Integra, and the two fast Kadett drivers Andreas Burri and Sepp Schönbächler, he kept the strong competition for such an event at bay. With a newer BMW M2, with which he competed in hill climbs and a few slaloms in Group E1 this year, Albin Mächler is aiming for the 2017 slalom championship title.

IKSM title to Noa Schmid on Subaru BRZ
The big absentee in the 89-strong field of participants from all over Switzerland was Noa Schmid. The Kriens-based driver had already been confirmed as the old and new IKSM champion. With his Subaru BRZ, Noa Schmid celebrated victory in the L2 class up to 2000 cc in all eight races before, most recently on October 8 in the SM run of Ambri. There, Ruth Scherrer finished third in class behind Patrick Gerber (Honda Integra) in a BMW 318iS, which is her best IKSM result besides the national IS class win at the Geneva-Palexo slalom on September 3. She is the life partner of Albin Mächler - lessons learned.
