Moto2-GP: Thomas Lüthi creates victory after victory
With his second win in a row (a first in his career), his 14th GP win overall and now second place in the intermediate world championship standings - 22 points behind leader Johann Zarco - Thomas Lüthi (Team Garage Plus Interwetten) is the man of the moment. On the demanding and fast Phillip Island circuit in Australia, the 30-year-old from Bern defeated the Italian Franco Morbidelli by a few centimeters in a heart-stopping final. Thomas Lüthi, who had already clinched pole position, was in the lead for the entire race apart from a few corners. With a lead of ten thousandths of a second, he sprinted across the finish line with the number 12 on the yellow and black fairing ahead of Franco Morbidelli's blue machine. Thomas Lüthi: "My start was excellent. In fact, it was so good that I was immediately able to set a high rhythm and wanted to break away. Every time I passed the pits, I saw the minimum gaps: one tenth, two tenths, maybe three tenths. So I knew it would remain close."
The Bernese racer is motivated and in the form of his life
Thomas Lüthi is now second in the world championship, is in the form of his life and is only 22 points behind the disappointing world champion Johann Zarco (only 12th place in Australia) with two races to go. Nevertheless, Thomas Lüthi does not want to talk about his chances of winning the World Championship (a maximum of 50 points are still up for grabs): "Everyone wrote me off for the title a few weeks ago. So I'm not talking about it now either. I will continue to take care of my own business, tackle one race at a time and not worry for a second about what my opponents are doing."
