Now the Four Rings have unveiled the body, camouflaged only by an eye-catching decal, and allowed the press to take a seat and experience the interior and operating concept during extensive test drives.
The SUV-typical seating position is perfect for city driving, and there is still plenty of room in the rear seats even when the front seats are pushed far back.
Screens are configurable in many ways
The design language is typical of Audi: ultra-modern, with generously glazed surfaces and a look that is as high-quality as it is technically cool. The screens, which can be configured in many ways, are oriented toward the driver, and for an additional charge there is a head-up display that provides large-area, three-dimensional information and driving instructions that seem to float far in front of the car and cannot be overlooked.
The turn arrow appears in the form of a hovering drone, and when the driver arrives, a finish flag marks the correct side of the road.
Completely new generation of the steering wheel
The software compensates for vehicle movements perfectly, and the voice control works absolutely reliably. We were pleasantly impressed by the fact that the driver is addressed by the system - a relief in view of the clumsy ducking systems in other brands.
With the Q4 e-Tron, Audi is also introducing a completely new generation of steering wheel that looks high-class and futuristic with four spokes. There is both a classic, round steering wheel rim and a version that - similar to the new BMW iX.
