Join us for a lap in the Hyundai Veloster N TCR. However, Farfus only seems to really step on the gas in the oval.
In the run-up to the 24 Hours of Daytona, the former DTM driver and current Hyundai Motorsport development driver completed three laps twice on the 3.6-mile Daytona International Speedway with its 31-degree banked turns.
The demonstration on Saturday, January 30, served to promote the Pure ETCR in the USA. This is the first multi-brand racing series for all-electric touring cars. The championship will not consist of actual races, but of battles over a sprint distance.
Alfa Romeo, Cupra and Hyundai
So far, three manufacturers have been confirmed as participants: Cupra with the e-Racer, Hyundai with the Veloster N ETCR and Alfa Romeo with the Giulia ETCR by Romeo Ferraris. MG is still to be added.
Equipped with various standardized components for cost reasons, these electric touring cars have a maximum output of 500 kW (approx. 680 hp) and accelerate to 100 km/h in just over three seconds.
Five first events
The 2021 calendar includes five events, four of which will be held in Europe in the summer and one in South Korea in October. The season kicks off from June 18 to 20 at the Autodromo Vallelunga near Rome.
Farfus' demo drive from the outside, plus a short interview with the Brazilian and Marcello Lotti from WSC, the license holder of all TCR series and the ETCR.
