On April 16/17, the Critérium Jurassien is to be held with the protection concept then required. The first round of the 2021 Swiss Rally Championship is also to be the starting signal for the Junior SS, which has been held as part of the Rally SS since 2012.
As decided by the National Sports Commission (NSK), the Junior Championship will be held with identical vehicles. The Renault Clio 5 R.S. will be used. Up to now, juniors could compete for the title with R2 cars of any brand.
The Clio R3 Alps Trophy, on the other hand, will no longer be held after six years. These were open to drivers of all ages and also foreign licensees.
No older drivers
The idea to allow older riders to participate in the Junior-SM (born in 1992 or later) because of Corona and the resulting cancellation of the 2020 season was rejected by the NSK.
If you are interested in the championship as a driver, please contact the promoter Brice Zufferey (see link below). He can answer all questions and arrange contacts where necessary.
Four to five runs planned
The calendar includes (as of today) the four existing rallies. A fifth, not yet determined event (depending on the course of the pandemic) is to be added later in the year. The aim is to hold the Junior-SM at all rounds of the Swiss Rally Championship.
The last Junior champion for the time being comes from Valais. Jonathan Michellod won the title in 2019 together with co-driver Stéphane Fellay and got his first taste of R5 action at two rallies abroad in the Corona year 2020.
