Occasions: Prices on average at 2019 level

Empty dining rooms, schools and trains - but at the same time full hospitals and test centers. Images that characterize the year 2020. For many industries and their businesses, this is an expression of an economic challenge. For the automotive industry, too, things have not been running smoothly lately. Occasions
There have been severe delivery bottlenecks and delays for new cars to date, and not only in Switzerland.

The automotive sector has also not been doing very well recently. This is despite the fact that the auto industry provides a large part of individual mobility, which has become more important to many people in recent months due to the risk of Covid-19 contagion. This is shown by data from Autoscout24, Switzerland's largest online platform for vehicles.

Contact with sellers by phone or form

Pierre-Alain Regali, Managing Director of Autoscout24: "Our user numbers increased by an average of eight percent per month last year. At peak times in June, they even rose by over 20 percent. In the spring, the picture was quite different. At the beginning of the emergency, overall numbers were still declining. By April, they had already recovered. At the end of the year, more people interested in cars were looking for vehicles than in the previous year. Also, sellers have been contacted more often than in the previous year by phone or form."

More holder changes for good used cars than in 2019
Especially good quality used cars are very popular. There are many reasons for this: For example, many automotive plants had to close completely during the emergency, which is why there have been severe supply bottlenecks and delays for new cars to date.

Says Pierre-Alain Regali, "That's where good quality used vehicles, such as new, low-mileage, well-equipped used cars, form a very popular alternative."

This statement is confirmed by statistics from Eurotax and Astra.
While new car registrations slumped by a quarter compared to the previous year, more changes in ownership of used cars were recorded, especially in the last six months, than in 2019.

Average used car prices at previous year's level
Anyone thinking about buying a used car no longer has to expect more expensive prices than before Covid-19. While average used car prices in the spring were still slightly up on the previous year at plus six percent, they are now back at the previous year's level, according to Autoscout24.
