MG: Two letters bring back memories
COMEBACK It was a matter of time before MG made the leap across the Channel from the UK. The export to some countries has started. There is no word yet on a sales launch in Switzerland. The brand, which belongs to the Chinese SAIC Group, has now established itself in England, where it has captured a market share of 1.3 percent.
Registration figures in October were more than double those of a year ago. In the first ten months of the year, MG Motor UK sold over 16,000 cars.
Focus on small cars and electric cars
The company has had nothing to do with the legendary sports cars for a long time. The main focus of the once British brand of the largest Chinese automaker is on small cars (MG3) and increasingly on electric cars like the MG5 EV station wagon and the ZS, which is also available as a gasoline-powered model.
Electric motor with four gear ratios
With the EHS, MG has now presented a plug-in hybrid for the European markets. It combines a 162 hp 1.5 liter turbo gasoline engine with a 90 kW electric motor (122 hp). MG quotes a system output of 258 hp and 370 Nm of torque.
The standard range in pure electric mode is up to 52 kilometers. The combustion engine is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission, while the electric motor has four gear ratios.
From 0 to 100 km/h in seven seconds
The compact SUV, which is just under 4.60 meters long, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under seven seconds and offers a trunk capacity of 448 liters to a maximum of 1375 liters.
The equipment has a lot to offer even in the basic version with a digital 12.3-inch control panel and central 10.1-inch touchscreen as well as ambient lighting, cruise control, blind spot and collision warning as well as 360-degree camera.
