Hispano Suiza, founded in 1904 by Geneva designer Marc Birkigt and Spanish financier Damia Mateu in Barcelona, built expensive and very powerful cars between the two world wars, and later also aircraft engines.
First prototypes at the Geneva Motor Show
The renaissance of the luxury car manufacturer was heralded in spring 2000 at the Geneva Motor Show with the HS21 Concept super sports car study. Further studies and prototypes followed.
The near-series two-seater Maguari was only presented again in Geneva in 2019. It was powered by a turbocharged Lamborghini V10 engine.
Following the Carmen model, the company has now announced a second model: the Carmen Boulogne, an even more accentuated sports version of the Carmen. While the basic model produces 750 kW (1020 hp), the additionally sharpened version, which owes its name to a series of racing successes in Boulogne, delivers 820 kW (1115 hp) with a maximum torque of 1600 Nm.
Lightweight carbon construction weighs 1630 kilograms
The Carmen body is largely made of carbon, which is why the 4.73 meter long and only 1.24 meter high Carmen Boulogne only weighs 1630 kilograms despite its large battery - around 60 kilograms less than the basic version. With the 80 kWh battery, the Power EV should be able to travel up to around 400 kilometers.
Not quite as far, however, when the maximum performance is demanded: From a standstill, 100 km/h is reached after 2.6 seconds, and the speed limit is only reached at 290 km/h. The subsequent charging of the battery from 30 to 80 percent takes around 30 minutes at the 80 kW fast charging station.
Prices start at 1.5 million euros
Following the official announcement of the Carmen and Carmen Boulogne model pair, Hispano Suiza also names the planned edition. Exclusivity is guaranteed, as only 14 Carmen and five Carmen Boulogne will be produced.
The Spanish company is quoting prices of 1.5 million euros for the Carmen and 1.65 million euros for the Boulogne sports version. The first deliveries can be expected in 2022.
