The new Hyundai i20 N Rally2 is the successor model to the successful i20 R5, which has been used by the Hyundai customer sports division since 2015. Since then, there have also been several successes at national level in Switzerland.
New design philosophy
The i20 N Rally2 builds on the accumulated experience of Hyundai Motorsport engineers and offers an improved package in all areas. The basis of the new rally car is the chassis of the All-New i20 N. This is Hyundai's first N high-performance model in the small car segment.
The i20 N Rally2 reflects the dynamic look of the road model. It follows Hyundai's new "Sensuous Sportiness" design philosophy, giving the vehicle a powerful look inspired by motorsports. Note the gallery.
Five years experience
While the five-speed sequential transmission is carried over from the i20 R5, the i20 N Rally2 has been almost completely redeveloped in all other areas - including the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. In the project, the designers and engineers incorporated five years of experience from the predecessor model.
They also benefited from the growth of Hyundai Motorsport's customer sports department. When the i20 R5 was launched, the department consisted of just a handful of employees; today the team comprises around 60 employees.
The new i20 N Rally2 benefits from the development steps with the i20 R5. The new chassis enables major advances in almost every aspect of vehicle design.
A racing car for all
New suspension components and dampers give the car more precise handling on all surfaces. This is particularly important in the Rally2 category, which forms the basis of numerous national and regional championships as well as the international WRC2 and WRC3 classes. The cars entered there are driven by professionals and private drivers, both on gravel and asphalt.
The extensive test program with the i20 N Rally2 began at the end of October. The first deliveries of customer vehicles and final homologation are scheduled for summer 2021.
