Volkswagen: This is what the current Caddy offers 🎥

PRAKTIKUS High-roof station wagons don't necessarily make the hearts of car enthusiasts beat faster. Above all, they are practical transport solutions. The fifth model generation now uses the Golf platform for the first time, which pays off particularly in the passenger car versions. The interior has grown significantly thanks to the increased wheelbase of 2.75 meters, so that there is now room for up to seven people in the airy interior.

Caddy
The Caddy has grown considerably in length, width and height since its first presentation in 1978 (left).

There are 19 assistants to choose from
An optional 1.4-square-meter glass roof further brightens the atmosphere, and elements such as a keyless start and lock system spread a certain luxury that was not necessarily common in this class before.

Wolfsburg is also focusing on growth in terms of the assistants on offer and is giving the Caddy 19 systems, five of which are making their debut.

Trailer maneuvering assistant as an option
These include Travel Assist, which enables assisted driving at all speeds. A turn-off assistant protects against accidents when crossing the oncoming lane, and for the first time in this segment a trailer maneuvering assistant is used.

California model coming next year
An all-wheel-drive version is in the works, and next year Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will launch a motorhome variant, the Caddy California. The recreational vehicle can be equipped with a mini-kitchen, panoramic glass roof and a newly developed tent. The price list is to start at less than 30,000 francs.

Plug-in variant, natural gas and twin dosing
In this segment, the diesel share is particularly high, which is why the developers gave the Caddy the twin-dosing process. Adblue is injected upstream of two SCR catalytic converters (selective catalytic reduction) to optimize the exhaust gas balance.
There is a choice of three output levels for the two-liter TDI engine, delivering 75 hp, 102 hp or 122 hp. A turbocharged gasoline engine with 114 hp is also available.

Marketing Director Heinz Jürgen Löw: "A plug-in variant will be launched in three years." A turbocharged natural gas engine with 130 hp and an eHybrid round off the range.

Hard plastic gives a valuable impression
In the interior, the Caddy cannot completely conceal its commercial vehicle origins. Easy-to-clean hard plastic dominates, but it is finished in such a way that it creates a high-quality impression.

The seats for driver and passengers offer good lateral support, and the damping and suspension do not even give the impression that the Caddy was also designed as a commercial vehicle.

7-speed dual-clutch transmission on request
A six-speed manual transmission is used as standard for the powerful TDI engines - a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is available as an option. Once underway, the Caddy shows its trouble-free side. The newly developed rear axle significantly improves ride comfort. The luggage compartment can also easily stow the utensils for a longer vacation trip, and recreational sports enthusiasts will find plenty of space for their sports equipment.

Prices start at 22,262 Swiss francs for the Cargo with short wheelbase, 2.0-liter diesel with 75 hp, 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. The Cargo, Kombi, Caddy, Life and Style equipment variants are available.

Special model Entry from 18 427 francs
The first special models for the launch of the new Caddy are already here. Starting at 18,427 Swiss francs, the Entry 2.0 TDI with six-speed manual transmission and 75 hp based on the Cargo or Kombi offers, among other things, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors and the Composition Audio radio with 6.5-inch touch color display.
