The second-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost continues what was started with the first edition. With further enhanced comfort and safety technology, but a more restrained exterior, it is intended to appeal to a young clientele. With the new edition, the British are taking a further step in the direction of understatement.
Special space for silence and comfort
Just how much refined detail is contained in the car only reveals itself at second glance - once you've taken a seat. See details in the gallery.
Large leather trim with perfectly finished stitching, door handles that are switches for electric opening, and multi-layer glazed side windows make the interior of the Ghost a very special space of silence and comfort.
Luminous radiator grille is the focal point
For all its restrained design, the front end remains the distinguishing feature of every Rolls-Royce model. The brand muse Emily is enthroned in the center at the front of the hood.
The new Pantheon radiator grille has become lower and thus appears more elegant. It makes its grand entrance at night, when bluish light shimmers out from behind the grille bars.
571 hp and torque of 850 Nm
The Ghost Series II is the third car on the new platform, which was developed at the Goodwood plant in aluminum spaceframe architecture for the Phantom and has also been used for the Cullinan SUV model since 2018.
Beneath the all-aluminum body is the 6.75-liter V12 biturbo engine familiar from the Phantom, which sends its maximum torque of 850 Nm and peak output of 571 hp to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic torque converter. Also part of the new Ghost is all-wheel steering.
Also new is the Planar suspension system, a dual damping system for the front suspension. It detects the quality of the road surface and proactively adjusts the setup, resulting in further optimized ride comfort.
A very special kind of car world
The first test drive in the Ghost lived up to all expectations. Both in the back seat and behind the wheel, you experience a new world.
The car rolls along quietly, and there is no sign of any road imperfections. Later, on the German autobahn at 200 km/h, it's no problem to have a conversation with the guest on the back seat at normal volume. And, by the way, enjoy the moment when the car attracts attention despite its modest exterior.
End of decade pure electric drive
The price? A minor matter, base around 300,000 Swiss francs. The question about the electrification of the drive is answered by the boss.
CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös: "We are taking the step directly to electromobility - without hybrid systems. By the end of the decade, a purely electrically powered model should be ready for series production."
