Camping: TCS extended for two weeks
SIGNIFICANT INCREASE The largest camping site operator in this country, the Touring Club of Switzerland, has once again increased overnight stays in the summer of 2020 by a double-digit percentage compared to the record year of 2019. A significant increase was particularly noticeable at the height of summer. At the end of August, overnight stays totaled 606,000, an increase of around 13 percent on the previous year.
Oliver Grützner, Head of Tourism and Leisure at TCS: "Demand during the summer vacations was many times higher than we could have anticipated."
Water, mountains and glamping
The first to be fully booked in the summer were the campsites by the water. The biggest increase, however, was recorded by campsites in the mountain region of Graubünden, with a plus of 47 percent.
There was also strong demand for the glamping offers: The approximately 240 rental accommodations at TCS sites were very well occupied. The accommodations with private bathrooms were practically booked out from the beginning of June until mid-August. You can see some of the most beautiful sites in the gallery.
Predominantly Swiss guests
Many Swiss apparently followed the recommendations of the Federal Council and spent their vacations in Switzerland. The proportion of Swiss guests at TCS campsites was around 90%. The protection concepts have also worked well.
Season extension in autumn
The outlook for September and October is also very encouraging: online bookings for the two months are around 120 percent up on the previous year. TCS has already responded to the increased demand by extending the season by two weeks.
