In qualifying, he left the second-fastest behind by around half a second-a world tour in a one-make cup where hundredths normally make the difference. In contrast to last year, when the now 20-year-old Porsche junior was also on pole position with another team's Porsche and "only" finished second behind his current title rival Sven Müller, he made profitable use of it on Sunday.
Because Sven Müller had to settle for fourth place behind Matteo Cairoli, Michael Ammermüller and guest driver Luca Drudi, the specialist man was able to reduce the gap in the standings to two points. With 40 points still up for grabs in two rounds at the finale of the US GP in Austin/Texas on October 22 and 23, 2016, this practically means a tie. Alex Fach sees a psychological advantage: "Sven Müller has to win in his third year, we get to."
Points for Jeffrey Schmidt and Philipp Frommenwiler
From 10th on the grid, Jeffrey Schmidt advanced to eighth place in 14 laps and thus slipped to 6th in the standings. Philipp Frommenwiler's lame engine had to be replaced after qualifying, after which the Thurgau native improved from 13th to 9th place in the race. Philipp Frommenwiler is also looking forward to the finale in the USA with excitement because two years ago he made his Supercup debut there in the specialist team.
