TCS has conducted an analysis of the electric vehicle market. It shows how it has developed over the last five years and what you get for your money today.
Demand for electric cars is rising steadily. Since 2015, more than 25,000 vehicles have been put on the road in Switzerland. In 2019, there were more than 13,000 cars in Switzerland alone - more than twice as many as in 2018. In the current year, up to 8300 mobile vehicles with electric drives were put into circulation.
Importantly, the average range has more than doubled in recent years from 127 to 331 kilometers, and the purchase price per kilometer of range has more than halved (from 343 to 167 francs/kilometer).
Offers, range and deliverability
TCS has analyzed the market and highlighted the following criteria:
- how has the supply of electric cars developed from 2015 to 2020 in terms of price and range?
- how is the offer designed and structured today?
- what about the availability of electric cars in Switzerland?
For the analysis, 14 models available on the Swiss market in 2015 were considered, as well as 30 mid-range models from 16 different manufacturers and eleven luxury models from five brands.
Adaptation of available models
Some of the manufacturers have adjusted their 2015 models over several stages of development, either lowering the price while keeping the range the same, increasing the range while keeping the price the same, or both.
For the most part, the cars are available for delivery. Thus, with few exceptions, the cars are available for test drives at the dealers. According to the Swiss importers, delivery times are between immediately and the fourth quarter of 2020.
Comparable prices in the near future
Conclusion of the experts: If development continues at the same pace over the next five years, it can be assumed that by 2025 the electric car will reach comparable prices with conventional cars and that it will continue to establish itself rapidly in everyday life.
