Scania: First side airbag for trucks
This really makes sense: the new generation of Scania trucks can be equipped with side airbags that are integrated into the roof liner above the doors - a unique solution that has never been seen before in trucks. The Scania side airbags offer significantly increased protection for the occupants in the event of the vehicle tipping over, one of the most serious types of accident. Christofer Karlsson, responsible for the development of the Scania crash safety system: "The use of seat belts is essential for the function of the safety systems and to ensure that the driver is not ejected from the cab. Our side airbag - especially in combination with the steering wheel airbag and the belt tensioner - ensures that the driver and passengers have a much better chance of survival and suffer much less serious consequences than in other trucks."
Unveiling the new truck generation on the Internet
A common reason for trucks tipping over is evasive maneuvers when the driver has to avoid other vehicles or an obstacle. If the vehicle leaves the road, the load-bearing capacity is rarely high enough and the vehicle can start to sway or - at higher speeds - even tip over. Sophisticated systems with sensors determine when and whether the side airbags and other airbags are deployed. If triggered, the airbags are inflated immediately.
Tip: The new generation of Scania trucks will be unveiled online on August 23. The launch can be followed on nextgenscania.com.
