Yves Hängärtner: GP3 car runs perfectly
TEST IN ELSASS Next year, two GP3-Dallara race cars are sure to appear at Swiss slaloms and hill climbs. Yves Hängärtner raves about it after first test drives on a circuit. On March 11, we publicized this project online at AutoSprintCH (read here). Meanwhile, the two new owners of Dallara GP race cars from the Jenzer Motorsport inventory - Yves Hängärtner and Markus Bosshard - are one step further.
First testing, then racing
The long-time president of the Ecurie Biennoise could even already go to the start of one or the other hill climb or slalom, if there were any left. Although there is still a chance to do so (Drognens slalom at the end of September or Bas Monsieur in October), the multiple daily winner at the wheel of a Tatuus-Honda Formula Master has no plans to take part.
Egmo makes everything new
He'd much rather use the time to get used to the race car with a 2-liter, four-cylinder Renault turbocharged engine from the GP3 Series from 2010 to 2012 with around 300 hp. Originally, this chassis featured a 3.4-liter Mecachrome V6 like those used by the second generation of GP3 cars and the current FIA Formula 3 cars.
For next year's races, a newly developed 1.750cc turbo from Eggenberger Motorenbau with significantly more power will be installed on the same engine block.
Unlike in standardized formulae on the circuit, private drivers in Group E2 are allowed to intervene in the inner workings of an engine and its electronics - if, like Hängärtner, they can do so with the help of specialists. At Egmo in Lyss, in the immediate vicinity of Jenzer Motorsport, where the chassis work is done, the complete wiring and electronic tuning was therefore redone. This was accompanied by a switch to a pneumatic gearshift.
Perfect test run
During test drives at the Anneau du Rhin in Alsace, Hängärtner familiarized himself with his new acquisition, having previously completed only a brief functional test. Afterwards, he raved about the driving behavior of the Dallara GP3 and the Egmo power of the Renault turbo engine.
Yves Hängärtner: "It suits me that I now have enough time for preparation. There was not the slightest problem in an hour and twenty minutes of driving. I always felt comfortable. That's a joy."
"Sharp" engines for Hängärtner and Bosshard
With Sägesser Motorsport, the Hängärtner plans to take part in another test day on the Circuit of Bresse (F) in the near future. He is also planning to take part in the slalom test days of the Equipe Bernoise in Ambri in October instead of the cancelled SM final run.
The "armed" engine is then to be installed in spring 2021 before the first Swiss races. The same engine, which will not be too original, is currently being built at Egmo for Markus Bosshard's second race car.
For the fun of driving
To show the potential of the monoposto, which has never been seen in a race in this country, Yves Hängärtner could also start sporadically on the mountain. Bosshard plans to do the same, although the Appenzeller's ambitions are somewhat lower.
Markus Bosshard: "I will be driving such a modern race car for the joy of it. The Egmo engine will be of the finest. I know that I won't be as fast as Yves with it, but I don't care."
Friends of Swiss motorsport won't care either - both will be an enrichment to the national scene.
