Where she feels almost at home in Schwellbrunn AR, Jasmin Preisig is finally making her debut in the ADAC TCR Germany, the German championship for two-liter turbo touring cars with front-wheel drive. She knows these cars very well, having taken her first international steps in the Opel Astra OPC Cup in the VLN championship at the Nürburgring, where she celebrated her first class win and fastest race lap on July 16 - one day before her 24th birthday.
Unexpected use for fast Swiss woman
The Opel Astra TCR made its debut at the opening round of the International TCR Series in Bahrain in April. Afterwards, however, Opel Motorsport saw a need for action. "The race under the special climatic conditions in the Persian Gulf showed that we have further development work to do. This applies to the drivability of the engine, especially at high outside temperatures, brake cooling and the configuration of the front axle, which we will make even stiffer for driving over the curbs," Opel Sports Director Jörg Schrott said in response to an inquiry.
Premiere with three cars at the Nürburgring
After the first test run of the further developed Astra at a race for the TCR Benelux in Zandvoort recently went quite well with a third place, Opel decided at short notice to schedule the German premiere with three cars at the fifth round at the Nürburgring. Touring car specialists Jordi Oriola (E) and Pierre Yves Corthals (B) will be a valuable support in all areas for Jasmin Preisig, who is the first woman to drive in the TCR Germany.
