As inactive as the organizing committee of the Automobile Club de Monaco has to remain this year, it will have to get down to work in 2021. After carrying out a feasibility study, the Monegasques decided to stage three completely different racing events within four weeks next spring.
First the classical...
First, the 12th Grand Prix de Monaco Historique will be held from April 23 to 25. After being canceled this year, it was not due to take place again until 2022. To ensure that the biennial cycle of this globally important classic racing event can be maintained, the 13th edition has already been scheduled for the following year from May 13 to 15.
... then the electric ones...
The classic racing cars drive on the original GP circuit just like the modern Formula 1 cars. On Saturday, May 8, the significantly shorter version of the street circuit will be open to Formula E racing cars. The 4th Monaco E-Prix was already scheduled for this date before the coronavirus pandemic.
... and finally the most important ones
On the extended Ascension weekend from May 20 to 23, 2021, the Grand Prix de Monaco de Formule 1 will start for the 78th time. Since 1955, the race on the streets of Monte Carlo has always been part of the Formula 1 World Championship.
Enormous effort
Track construction will begin at the end of February instead of mid-March as usual. According to the ACM, the organization of three major events is complex, especially in terms of logistics, but not insurmountable. In addition to the OC members and the staff provided by the Principality, around 3,000 volunteers are needed, including 650 marshals along the race route.
