SM 2020: Hope for rally and karting 🎥
There will definitely be no slalom and mountain championships this year. On the other hand, the rally and kart drivers can hope. For them, there is a new provisional race calendar with title awarding. As another and soon to be last speed event, the traditional slalom final of the Equipe Bernoise in Ambri will be cancelled this year. After the Bernese had already had to cancel the profitable test days at the end of March at the same location, this contribution is missing in the club's coffers to subsidize the SM run.
Moreover, because many regulars among the drivers will no longer buy a race license for 2020, the budgeted revenue from participants would also have been hard to achieve. Although not yet officially communicated, the cancellation is understandable. However, some kind of free driving or testing is being considered.
This would leave only the Drognens slalom from the end of September as the original SM run. Whether the people of Fribourg will hold on after the decision of the National Sports Commission (NSK) not to award any titles on the mountain and in the slalom in 2020 is doubtful.
Rally-SM with three runs
Things look better in rally and karting. After an intensive exchange in the Rally Committee, the members agreed on a modified 2020 calendar consisting of three rounds. The option of an additional new rally in France (Rallye Monts et Coteaux) did not seem feasible for various reasons.
Accordingly, the calendar for the Swiss Championship Rally presents itself as follows:
- September 3 to 5: Rally Mont-Blanc (F), previously
- September 25/26 Rally Ticino, new date
- October 15 to 17: Rallye Internationale du Valais, so far
The 2020 Rally Junior championship is also to be held at these three events. The aim is to award possible titles. Whether and in what form, the NSK will finally discuss and decide at its next meeting.
Kart drivers stay among themselves
Due to the latest developments and the upcoming openings of the borders, the umbrella organization Auto Sport Schweiz has also created a new provisional calendar for the period from June to October.
The permitted spectator capacity will only have to be observed in Wohlen with regard to organization. Abroad, the autobau SKM drives in principle "under exclusion of the public".
The following races are proposed for autobau SKM 2020, taking into account all necessary protection concepts and specifications of the authorities:
- June 28: Château Gaillard (F), previously
- August 23: 7-Laghi (I), previously
- September 12: Wohlen, previously
- October 18 Levier (F), new/provisional
How it goes on the kart track Wohlen and its restaurant since the reopening on May 11 with the special measures, shows this short video.
It may already be trained
Currently, all kart tracks are open in Switzerland. Karting trainings are allowed to offer in compliance with the protection concept of Auto Sport Switzerland (created in cooperation with IG Kartfahren).
The TCS, as the operator of the circuit in Lignières, for its part allows licensed car racing drivers for training drives. The demand for the three four-hour sessions on the afternoons of May 19, May 27 and June 3 was so great that the small quota allowed was quickly exhausted.
Information on the other Swiss championships will be announced by Auto Sport Schweiz shortly.
