GTA stands for Gran Turismo Alleggerita and is the name for a fast touring car.
The technology and overall concept of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA are inspired by the Giulia GTA presented in 1965, a special version of the Giulia Sprint GT coupé developed by Alfa Romeo's racing department Autodelta.
Power increased to 540 hp
The three letters GTA stand for the Italian term "Gran Turismo Alleggerita" and denote a fast touring car (Gran Turismo) in lightweight construction (Alleggerita). The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA special model is based on the standard top version of the series, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.
One difference is the increased output of the 2.9-liter V6 biturbo gasoline engine to 540 hp. The use of lightweight materials reduces the vehicle weight by 100 kilograms compared with the Quadrifoglio. The result is a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio of 2.82 kilograms per hp.
Special body painting
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm models will only be built 500 times together. Around this project, Alfa Romeo has put together a package that is intended to offer a unique experience far beyond the purchase of a vehicle, according to the press release. This relates, for example, to the design of the body and interior.
Centro Stile Alfa Romeo has designed a collection of special body paint schemes for the new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, inspired by racing successes of the historic Giulia GTA. You can see examples in the gallery.
Combinations of known racers
Among the best-known historic paint schemes are the ocher/white and red/yellow combinations. The color ocher was characteristic for the Alfa Romeo Giulia 1750 GTAm and Giulia 2000 GTAm. With these models, Dutchman Toine Hezemans became European Touring Car Champion in 1970. And in 1971, he helped Alfa Romeo win the European Championship title in the one-make category.
Configuration on the Internet possible
Buyers of an Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA or Giulia GTAm can choose the paint finishes for their vehicles. Optionally, they even receive a starting number on the doors and a vehicle cover from Goodwool in the identical design. As of now, the two special models Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and Giulia GTAm can be configured on the Internet.
In Switzerland, the Giulia GTA is available at a price starting at 188,000 francs. Prices for the Giulia GTAm start at 193,000 francs.
