Many spectators from Switzerland also travel to the endurance races on the famous Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The last two races, however, will probably only be enjoyed by the hardy. The participating teams and drivers will also have to brace themselves for temperatures similar to winter sports.

Start of season as late and finale as late as never before
After the first three spring races of the series had to be canceled, a new schedule for 2020 was worked out together with the operators of the Nürburgring. Eight races are planned. The season is scheduled to start on June 27. A first in the history of the series is a double event on July 11 and 12.

Christian Stephani, Managing Director of VLN VV GmbH & Co. KG: "Of course, no one can say today whether we will be racing again in June. It is important to us to create a perspective for the participants for the time after the ban on public events, even though restrictions will certainly have to be expected at the beginning."

The season finale will not take place until November 21 - at a time when it will already be freezing cold and snow may fall.

With or without spectators
If necessary, the events, in which numerous Swiss teams and drivers also participate, will be held without spectators. In this way, the VLN also wants to live up to its responsibility towards the teams whose economic situation is directly linked to the holding of racing events.

Even though a provisional schedule of eight runs is now in place, the political situation will continue to be monitored, he said.

Christian Stephani: "We had to make compromises, such as the double event in July or the final in late November. That's not ideal, but there's simply no alternative at the moment. We'll continue to stay in close contact with all the responsible parties and the Nürburgring. Should the possibility arise at short notice to offer the teams an additional date, we will look into this."

A race over six hours
The dates for the races are June 27, July 11 and 12, August 1, 29, October 24, November 7 and 21. The race of late August is over six hours, all others over four.

With its Ferrari, Octane126 is one of the teams from Switzerland racing at the Nürburgring. The authorities will decide when spectators will be allowed to attend in 2020.
