Motorsport: DMSB plans re-start from June 1
PREVIOUS PLANNING In contrast to Switzerland, hundreds of racing events in Germany have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. It is interesting to see how the association is now reacting to this. The DMSB, the umbrella organization for motorsport in Germany, is trying to develop a perspective for the time after the ban on public events. A member of the DMSB executive committee comments on this.
Dr. Gerd Ennser: "Thousands of jobs in Germany depend on motorsport. Drivers, teams, mechanics, engineers, race track operators - there is currently great uncertainty everywhere. In order to be ready to start again as soon as possible after the end of the completely justified government bans, we have now developed a step-by-step plan that we regularly review and adapt to the current situation."
Also of interest to the Swiss
Specifically, an online portal will be opened at the beginning of April that will allow the planning of predicate events - for example the 38 German championships from rallying to motocross - for the period after June 1. A number of Swiss motorsport athletes also take part in German races, many of which also attract spectators from Switzerland, which is why we are now reporting on them here.
Synchronization via database
Via the organizer access of my.dmsb.de dates and alternative dates for predicate events can be specified and compared with the plans of other organizers. In this way, the organizing club, which may have to postpone an event from the beginning of May to the second half of the year, can see which date is still free in its discipline and whether other organizers may want to occupy the same date.
Dr. Gerd Ennser: "If we can start motorsport again at some point, then hundreds of events will have to be spread over far fewer weekends. We want to give the organizing clubs the opportunity to avoid bottlenecks via our portal. Of course, we are not naive: we don't know whether June 1 is not far too optimistic. But it would be negligent to wait and see and only start planning when it is actually clear when things will continue."
The DMSB therefore sees itself as having a responsibility towards the active athletes and the entire motorsport industry. The calendar plans are to be reviewed on a regular basis. A two-month lead time is initially planned for June 1 as the cut-off date.
Reassessment on May 1
At the beginning of May, the DMSB Executive Committee will reassess the overall situation and, if necessary, postpone the restart of the season to July 1 - or even later. This phased plan is obviously not ideal, but it gives everyone involved a little more planning security.
Dr. Gerd Ennser: "Of course, we don't decide when the first races can take place again, the authorities are responsible for that. But we decide how conscientiously and professionally the DMSB and all those involved prepare for this day. One thing is certain: there will still be car and motorcycle events after the coronavirus pandemic, and we want to create the best possible conditions for this day for German motorsport."
