R-Motorsport: Focus on 2021

It was only on March 13 that R-Motorsport announced the cornerstones of its motorsport program for the 2020 season. The company from Niederwil SG is planning, or planned, the most extensive GT program in its still young history to date.
Dance at three weddings
In its third year of involvement in international GT racing, the Swiss team plans to enter its Aston Martin Vantage in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the GT World Challenge Europe and, for the first time, the GT4 European Series. The operational partner is Arden Motorsport. As of this year, the British racing company is also part of the so-called R universe, which operates under the corporate umbrella of the AF Racing Group with its R-Motorsport, R-Experience, R-Reforged and R-Service brands.
A statement from the boss
In a statement, the team boss, who runs all the companies together with Dr. Andreas Bänziger from St. Gallen, commented on the current situation.
Dr. Florian Kamelger: "It is regrettable that for the drivers, teams and fans it is not foreseeable at the moment when the wheels will start turning again in our sport and, above all, when we will be able to lead a normal life again. The health and well-being of our team members, competitors and everyone involved in motorsports and the related industry is our highest priority. We fully support the decisions made by the authorities in the various countries where teams in our R universe are based. We also stand behind the decisions made by the organizers and promoters of the series and respective races."
This year's first race at the 12 Hours of Bathurst, which was part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, was also the last for the time being. The South Tyrolean leaves open whether and how R-Motorsport will return to the race tracks this season.
Emerging stronger from the crisis
Internally, the strategic decision has been made to already focus resources on planning for the 2021 season engagement.
Dr. Florian Kamelger: "R-Motorsport's plans depend on the further development of the Corona crisis. At the moment, we remain focused on what could still happen in 2020, while we are already making arrangements for the 2021 season. Our teams under the R-Universe brand umbrella are now working all the more diligently to ensure that we quickly return to good and exciting times. R-Motorsport has solid business fundamentals and flexibility to weather the Covid-19 crisis well and we even come out of it stronger for the future."
