Instead of real on the real Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the world's biggest motorsport championship starts on Saturday, March 21, with a realistic broadcast. There are 56 cars in four classes (14 in each), four hours of racing with rich sound, impressive driving physics and brilliant graphics to marvel at through the Green Hell.
Christian Stephani, Managing Director of VLN VV GmbH & Co. KG: "After the first two races of the Nürburgring Endurance Series had to be cancelled due to the Corona virus, we took immediate action. With this realistic race in the Green Hell, we want to sweeten the waiting time a little for the fans of the series and at the same time offer an exciting virtual event. Simracing is enjoying growing popularity. And for our sponsors, it's another welcome platform and advertising presence."
Real teams in the virtual race
The first race of the Digital Nürburgring Endurance Series is aimed primarily at teams and drivers from the real Nordschleife championship, several of whom already have experience in virtual motorsport. But also proven simracing professionals take part - a highly interesting mixture.
The following vehicles will be used in the four different classes:
- SP9: Audi R8 LMS, Ferrari 488 GT3, Mercedes AMG GT3, BMW Z4 GT3
- Cup2: Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991)
- Cup3: Porsche Cayman
- TCR: Audi RS3 LMS
Here there is the provisional list of participants.
Almost like real life
The race takes place over the usual distance of four hours. Race director is Frank Taller, who also holds this office in the real race. He is assisted by long-time Nordschleife driver Marc Hennerici as Driver Consultant.
The live broadcast - among others on www.VLN.de - starts at 11 a.m. with a round of talks about the Nürburgring Endurance Series from the Transparent Studio. Olli Martini and Patrick Simon will provide information about the current status quo, look back at the past with entertaining anecdotes, and then finally lead over to the virtual debut of the Nordschleife series.
The race starts at 1 pm. The link to the live stream is available here.
