The face behind the new voice on SRF Formula 1 broadcasts. Michael Weinmann is known from "Schweiz aktuell.

Despite the global spread of the coronavirus and stricter entry regulations for Australia, the 2020 Formula One season begins in Melbourne on the weekend of March 14-15. As usual, SRF will broadcast all of the year's Grands Prix live.

Michael Weinmann is the new commentator, alternating with veteran Michael Stäuble. Also unchanged in the SRF team in the top class of motorsport is Marc Surer. The former racing driver supports the commentators at selected races as an SRF expert.

From sports journalism to "Schweiz aktuell
Weinmann has been working for Swiss radio and television since 2009. The 38-year-old is known to viewers as the presenter of the news magazine "Schweiz aktuell. He is also editor of the domestic editorial team.

Before joining SRF, the Zurich native worked in sports journalism for around ten years, including as a live commentator for pay-TV station Teleclub and Radio Top.

Return to journalistic roots
Weinmann will take on his new role as Formula 1 commentator in addition to his duties as domestic editor and presenter of "Schweiz aktuell".He will celebrate his premiere in front of the SRF F1 microphone on the weekend of July 4/5 at the Austrian GP.

Michael Weinmann: "For me, the role as commentator means a return to my journalistic roots. I'm delighted that this has led me to Formula 1. I've been following the races of the premier class since I was a child, and this passion continues to this day. I'm really looking forward to the additional task."
