As part of the partnership, ABB will install one of its latest charging stations at the Sauber Group headquarters in Hinwil to offer state-of-the-art fast-charging technology to the company's growing number of e-car users. The charging station will be powered by the photovoltaic system on the parking lot roof at Sauber's headquarters, currently one of the largest solar carports in Switzerland.
Expansion of the cooperation
The Sauber Group and ABB have been working together on a technical level for many years. For example, ABB frequency converters control the fan motor in Sauber Aerodynamics' state-of-the-art wind tunnel, where all Sauber Motorsport Formula 1 cars are developed. Various technologies from ABB are to be used in further collaborations at Sauber's modern production facility.
Both companies will use the cooperation to further advance the achievement of their own sustainability goals: ABB with its "Mission to Zero" initiative and Sauber with its efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and improve energy efficiency in all areas.
Commitment to electric motorsport
ABB is already the title sponsor of the FIA Formula E Championship for the third year. The Swiss Group has also entered into an extensive partnership with Porsche to jointly promote electromobility. As part of this agreement, ABB is also an official partner of the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team.
