CitroĆ«n: Ami - the somewhat different mobile š„
ORIGINAL AND AFFORDABLE Citroƫn has made a name for itself with unconventional models. DS, 2CV, Mehari or C3 Pluriel have shown it. Now the French are opening a new chapter with the Ami. In France, Citroƫn plans to offer the Ami starting at a monthly leasing rate of 19.99 euros.
Basically, the Ami is nothing more than an electric version of the Aixam or Ligier light cars popular in France, which are not allowed to travel faster than 45 km/h. The Ami is intended less as a competitor to passenger cars than as an alternative to public transport, two-wheelers and e-scooters.
Symmetrical lego mobile look
The plastic body of the Ami, which is just 2.41 meters short and 1.39 meters narrow without exterior mirrors, looks as if it has been pulled from a 3D printer. Even a Smart appears like a stately car against it. But just like the Smart, the two-seater can maneuver into any parking space with a turning circle of just 7.20 meters.
Push buttons and drawstrings
The front and rear sections are absolutely identically shaped, which gives it its symmetrical Lego look. The large doors are also basically just one component that swings backwards in the opposite direction on the driver's side and classically forwards on the passenger side. This is done from the outside with push buttons, and from the inside with a bit of pull tape.
Two people have good space
The interior also looks like a hard plastic mold, but thanks to the 1.52-meter height, two people can sit surprisingly spacious. However, there is not much more space apart from a few cupholders, a storage shelf in front of the windshield and a smartphone holder. The latter then serves as the main screen for navigation and infotainment.
The adjustable driver's seat can be moved longitudinally, while the front passenger seat is fixed. All-round visibility is very good thanks to the showcase look of the steeply sloping front and side windows. As in the "duck," the windows can be folded up manually.
According to the factory 70 kilometer range
The Ami is powered entirely electrically. A power output of five kW (seven hp) is sufficient for the specified top speed of 45 km/h for the four-wheeled passenger cell, which weighs just 485 kilograms. The lithium-ion battery installed in the floor has a capacity of 5.5 kilowatt hours, which provides a range of 70 kilometers.
The advantage: the battery can be charged in three hours at any household outlet using the charging cable integrated in the passenger door. At an AC charging station or wallbox, the charging process is correspondingly faster with an optional cable, depending on the power.
Maintenance costs save budget
CitroĆ«n brand CEO Vincent CobĆØe: "The Ami is a new solution for urban mobility that is accessible to everyone. In addition to its general availability, this also includes its affordable cost."
In France, the Stromer will be available for lease from June for 19.90 euros a month (plus down payment). It can be bought there for 6000 euros (minus 900 euros environmental bonus). Citroƫn also plans to offer the Ami for 26 cents per minute in its Free2Move car-sharing service.
In addition, interested parties can configure and order it online with just a few clicks of the mouse, not just at their Citroƫn dealer.
