Volkswagen: The Golf never gets old
TOLL TRIO VW is sprinting into the 2020 model year with the world premieres of the Swiss bestsellers Golf GTI, Golf GTD and Golf GTE. The maximum torque of the GTI, which is particularly popular in Switzerland, is 370 Newton meters. The four-cylinder is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission as standard. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG) is available as an option.
GTE delivers 245 hp system output
The plug-in hybrid drive of the Golf GTE consists of a TSI four-cylinder gasoline engine with 150 hp, a 115 hp electric motor, a six-speed DSG transmission and a new lithium-ion battery. The drive develops a system output of 245 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Newton meters.
Compared with its predecessor, the purely electric range has been increased to around 60 kilometers. This was achieved through aerodynamic modifications and a 50 percent increase in the battery's energy content to 13 kilowatt hours. The Golf GTE can be driven at up to 130 km/h in purely electric mode.
GTD with 400 Nm torque
On board the GTD is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TDI with an output of 200 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Newton meters. The TDI delivers this power even at low engine speeds.
Like all turbodiesels in the new Golf, the Golf GTD's powertrain is coupled to two SCR catalytic converters connected in series. Volkswagen offers the GTD as standard in combination with a seven-speed DSG.
Optional integrated fog lights
The front sections of the sporty compacts, which apparently never age, are quickly recognizable thanks to a modified front end with low-set LED headlights. An edge runs under the hood in model-specific colors: red for the GTI, blue for the GTE and silver for the GTD. With daytime running lights activated, the line is illuminated with LED strips. Integrated fog lights are available as an option.
Hood colored specific to model
A new multifunction sports leather steering wheel with touch controls and optionally integrated travel assist button enables assisted driving up to 210 km/h. The center bar of the steering wheel is colored to match the model-specific line under the hood. The check pattern on the sports seats also matches the model-specific color scheme.
Swiss prices and equipment for the new models have not yet been determined.
