After the 6 Series, the 4 Series and the 8 Series, BMW is now also adding a Gran CoupƩ to the 2 Series
After the 6 Series, the 4 Series and the 8 Series, BMW is now adding a Gran CoupƩ to the 2 Series. In contrast to its three predecessors, the new 2 Series is based on the front-wheel drive platform with a transversely mounted engine. This creates good space inside despite the compact exterior dimensions. The four doors without window frames enable a coupƩ-like low roofline and therefore also favorable aerodynamics. In addition, the silhouette, which extends to 4.52 meters, looks very elegant - especially with the optional 19-inch wheels.
More than 1000 kilometers range
Three engine versions will be available from the launch date of March 20. The 218i has a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with 140 hp. Like the 2-liter diesel in the 220d, this drives the front wheels. The diesel engine delivers 190 hp and a beefy torque of 400 Nm. With its comfortable seats, pleasant suspension and range of more than 1000 kilometers according to WLTP, it is particularly suitable as a touring vehicle.
Driving dynamics are typical for BMW
In keeping with the reputation of the BMW brand, the new model must of course have impeccable driving dynamics. The Bavarians have ensured this with various measures, for example by stiffening the body with several struts in the front and rear. The adjustable suspension and the sophisticated wheel slip control also ensure that the 2 Series Gran CoupƩ brilliantly overcomes the disadvantages of traction and steering typical of front-wheel drive cars.
Top model with 450 Nm and 306 hp
The top-of-the-range M235i model, on the other hand, does not manage with just two driven wheels. Its 2-liter turbo powerhouse with 450 Nm and 306 hp acts on both axles, sensitively distributed to the individual wheels by the electronic control system. As a result, it provides the greatest driving pleasure on winding roads, rounding bends of all kinds as if on the proverbial rails. The M235i xDrive reaches 100 km/h from a standing start in just 4.9 seconds.
Gesture control for the infotainment system
Inside, high-quality materials are perfectly crafted. The head-up display, instrument cluster and touchscreen inform the driver of all the details. In addition to the usual driver assistance systems, the Gran CoupƩ also offers keyless access with smartphone and gesture control for the infotainment system. The prices are 40,900 (218i), 48,200 (220d) and 67,400 francs (M235i xDrive).
