KW automotive: More fun with variant 5
TUNING With the Variant 5 coilover suspension, KW automotive once again lives up to its expertise in suspension innovations. For Variant 5, displacement piston dampers are adapted for road sports cars.
Compared to conventional coilover and sports suspensions in the original equipment and aftermarket, KW relies on its successful motorsport suspension technology with displacement pistons and modular as well as series-connected damper valves.
Variant 5 impresses in sports cars and supercars with precise and fast damping without time delay. Even with low spring travel, steering movements and minimal road unevenness, the dampers and valves respond directly.
Driving dynamics and comfort
The valves in Variant 5 can each be independently adjusted with 14 clicks in the low and high-speed damper forces of the compression and rebound stages to the respective driving sensation for more dynamics or increased comfort. The coilover suspension can also be used to set a stepless lowering.
In addition, the displacement piston technology used in variant 5 with its valves separated from the working piston offers further added value, such as the ability to implement fully active chassis systems.
Peter Banz, Managing Director of KW automotive (Schweiz) AG: "We rely on this technically interesting damper technology in exclusive vehicles of our industrial customers and also in GT3 motorsport. For example, the series-connected compression and rebound valves are separate from the working piston. This allows us to take completely different approaches to damping than with other systems."
Damping without time delay
For example, there is no longer any balancing between piston pressure and valve pressure, which means that the dampers respond much more sensitively and without any noticeable time delay. Every driving maneuver and every impulse, such as braking, accelerating, steering, load changes, and bumps, are damped much more precisely.
The displacement piston dampers support the vehicle body more optimally than conventional dampers, allowing lower spring rates to be used. Unharmonious handling or even a loss of grip due to an overly tight suspension design is prevented by variant 5.
No compromise for enthusiasts
A sports car equipped with a Variant 5 drives much more harmoniously and directly, without automotive enthusiasts having to compromise on driving dynamics or residual ride comfort. The new KW coilover suspension Variant 5 is the next generation of high-performance coilovers from KW automotive.
Depending on vehicle-specific requirements, the 4-way performance-adjustable Variant 5 coilover suspension developed exclusively for sports cars and supercars is offered for axle geometries with MacPherson struts, double-wishbone or multi-link axles and push-rod wheel suspensions.
