The Lamborghini Corse squad comprises seven drivers in 2020. The two new additions are Giacomo Altoé and Albert Costa. Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli (Blancpain GT Series Champions 2019), Dennis Lind, Franck Perera (partner of Lucerne-based Rolf Ineichen in the 2019 ADAC GT Masters) and Giovanni Venturini were already works drivers.
Emil Frey Racing in Safenwil is also delighted about this. Costa has been the spearhead from Safenwil for years and has already won with the Lexus RC F GT3. The 30-year-old from Barcelona is the first Spaniard to join the Lamborghini works squad.
Works driver at the age of 19
But Giacomo Altoè is by far the youngest. Born on October 5, 2000, the 19-year-old Venetian is the first works driver from the millennium. The experienced Costa and the talented Italian complemented each other perfectly at Emil Frey Racing last season.
Altoè was previously the best young driver from Sant'Agata Bolognese to win the 2018 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe, including the world final, as well as the Italian GT Championship. He was then awarded the status of official Lamborghini GT3 Junior Driver. He justified this by winning the GT Open title, which has now been rewarded with a works contract.
As previously reported, Altoé and Costa will compete in the GT World Challenge Europe (formerly the Blancpain GT Series) with one of the two Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVOs.
