The Swiss Race Academy was set up three years ago by former touring car mountain champion Hans Schori with the clear aim of promoting young talent interested in Swiss mountain racing. They are offered the unique opportunity to compete for the title of Swiss Hillclimb Champion Junior in their very first national racing season.
Experienced environment
Today, Schori's son Yves Meyer, who has made a name for himself in drifting, runs the Swiss Race Academy and, together with Joshua C. Reynolds, one of the eight graduates of the first class of 2017, also runs the Event Center Seelisberg.
Racing will be done with standardized Toyota GT86 Race (200 hp) according to Superseries regulations, rolling on Nexen road tires. The race vehicles will be centrally prepared, transported and serviced by Swiss Driving Event GmbH in Seelisberg.
Instructors and coaches with racing and media experience are on hand to provide advice at every race weekend. They also help to create an optimal sponsorship and marketing concept.
In a few steps to national racing license
The only condition for participation is the driving license of cat. B. Applicants must not be older than 1992 and must not have had a NATional or INTernational license.
LOCal and REGional license holders as well as complete newcomers are thus offered the chance to enter the national hillclimb scene in a professional environment and compete for an official Swiss championship title from Auto Sport Switzerland.
Good springboard
Several Academy graduates from the first three years have since made a splash in another category. Rolf Reding, the first junior mountain champion in 2017, was the fastest driver on a Porsche 991-I GT3 Cup in the Porsche Cup Suisse last season. The runner-up at the time, Lukas Eugster, drove a Ligier sports car to the overall winners' podium in several slaloms.
Raphael Feigenwinter unexpectedly took third place overall in the 2019 Swiss Mountain Touring Car Championship on a Honda Integra. Reding's successor Thomas Schmid was also Swiss junior rally champion in 2018.
January 26, 2020 sighting
The deadline for registration is January 13, 2020. The complete regulations can be found in the Application form for the Swiss Race Academy 2020 visible. There are still places available.
The screening of the candidates will take place on January 26 at the Event Center Seelisberg. The eight selected finalists will then compete for the title of Swiss Hill Climb Junior 2020 at the four hill climbs in Reitnau, Anzère, Oberhallau and Les Paccots.
Attendance at the sighting costs 185 Swiss francs, including lunch. For the complete racing season including two media days, test day, four races and the driver package including vehicle rental, 8865 Swiss francs must be raised.
