Beautiful driving and snapshots of the past season reflect the action and the good atmosphere that prevails in the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup.
After eight days of racing, spread out from April (Slalom Interlaken) to October (Slalom Ambri), things were more relaxed on Saturday at the Auto Zürich Car Show. Each and every one of the classified drivers in attendance was presented with a trophy or a small trophy at the festive end of the season.
Rewarded participation and brand loyalty
And the best part: In the one-make cup with the highest number of participants, all 41 who have started at least three races receive an entry fee subsidy of 300 francs per race. In addition, the loyalty of previous Suzuki riders was rewarded with a bonus. On top of this, the best drivers will receive generous prize money, the likes of which have not been seen in national motorsport for a long time.
This is not just a bait-and-switch policy, but is appreciated by everyone, as they really enjoy driving the Turboflitzers fast. On behalf of everyone, the master would like to say a big thank you to Safenwil.
Marcel Muzzarelli: "You have to give Suzuki a lot of credit for spending so much money on this. After all, they don't sell tons of cars. I don't race for the money, but the costs are lower this way. In addition, the Challenge in the Suzuki Racing Cup is absolutely great and the atmosphere is friendly and informal."
Prize money distributed more widely
Participant interest in 2019 exceeded the boldest expectations. Although the budget was stretched due to the entry fee subsidy, Suzuki Automobile Switzerland is holding on to this bonus for next year.
The prize money scheme will be adjusted so that more people can benefit. The first-place finishers will receive slightly less, but the 15th-place finisher will also receive some cash in addition to the subsidies. This means that around a third of all those classified will be entitled to prize money.
Points from 1 to 50 and a scratch result
As the midfield rankings from 16th to 40th place no longer made any difference in the official table, the points awarded next year will range from 1st place (50 points) to 50th place (1 point). It will therefore be even more closely graded. Unlike in 2019, however, there will be a drop result, meaning that a "drop" will no longer carry too much weight.
There is also a ninth race on the calendar. In addition to the eight races as part of the Swiss Slalom Championship, the ACS Zurich event at the Anneau du Rhin in Alsace at the end of August is one of them. A number of Suzuki riders already competed here this year in their own class to bridge the long summer break.
Good sound is part of it
The fact that the Suzuki Swift Sport is fast was evident from the running times. From 2020, the speed will also be reflected acoustically. If you want, you can install a sports exhaust system from Inoxcar, which gives the car a racing sound.
Otherwise, everything remains the same technically: The Suzuki must be absolutely standard, only semi-slicks from Yokohama - which have proven themselves in all weathers - may be fitted.
Checking instead of driving
Christian Zimmermann is the new man for coordination with the organizer on the race course and for technical control. The fifth-placed driver in this season's championship, who has been working at Garage Flammer in Glarus for 25 years, will not be taking part in the races and will keep himself fit at races outside of the Cup.
Registration for 2020 is open
The registration form for the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup 2020 will be available for download on the Suzuki Automobile website from November 4.
As a media partner, AutoSprintCH will continue to report on each race in detail on the homepage and in summary form in each print edition.
