Auction: No buyer for the oldest classic car

The Oldtimer Galerie Toffen auctioned 61 automobiles and one Vespa, as well as an art object, on the occasion of the Dolder Classics on the drained ice rink above Zurich (AutoSprintCH reported). Vehicles of 35 brands and from nine decades proved the variety, an average highest bid of 120 500 francs the quality of the offer. And the interest was great. Two television stations were [...]

Chenard & Walcker T3 Torpédo from 1924: Only 70,000 francs were bid for the oldest vehicle in the auction.

And the interest was great. Two television stations were on site and at the beginning of the auction the seats were occupied. Many spectators also followed the spectacle standing. The age range of the vehicles was over 90 years. Seven were from before World War II, the oldest car being a 1924 Chenard & Walcker T3 Torpédo, a sister car to a then Le Mans winner. The highest bid for this car, however, was 70,000 Swiss francs, which was below expectations, which is why it could only be knocked down with reservations.

Interested parties in classic cars exercise restraint
The auctioneer could be satisfied with a sales quota of 62 percent, but more than half of the 38 cars were sold "with reservations". Reinhard Schmidlin's team should therefore have a busy week ahead of them in order to be able to sell at least some of these cars. With 23 cars not sold, a number of cars fell by the wayside, even those that would have had a good chance of being sold in the run-up to the auction. The auction at the Dolder once again showed that today's classic car buyers are choosy and somewhat more reserved than in previous years. Some interested parties probably only came as observers, perhaps in order to get their chance in direct negotiations with the consignor after the auction. All prices achieved and further information on the Dolder Classics auction can be found in detail on the Internet.
